Blockbuster Online vs Netflix
It can be a difficult thing to decide which online movie rental service to choose from. Since Blockbuster and Netflix are the two most common, let's look at these side-by-side. Blockbuster online has varying rates dependent upon how many movies at one time you want to have at home. You can choose to have one movie per month at a time or you can have three movies per month at a time. In fact there are several options for movie rentals. I would suggest visiting www.blockbuster.com for more details. Netflix also has several different options from which to choose. Their system is similar to Blockbuster in that your options are how many movies you want to have in your house at one time. Visit www.netflix.com for more details. So how does the number-of-movies-at-a-time thing work?
Both Blockbuster online and Netflix assign their charges based on how many movies you have in your house at one time from them. So if you sign up for Blockbuster's 3 movies at a time option, you can have 3 of their movies at your house at any given time. This does not mean that you can only rent three movies per month. On the contrary you can only have three at one time- so in order to get a new movie you'll have to mail back a movie. Here's where they differ slightly:
When you use Blockbuster online you can actually return a movie to any local Blockbuster and exchange it for another movie. In fact, when you bring that movie home and watch it a few days later, you might actually have another movie shipped to you from blockbuster online! So, you'd technically have two movies in your possession at once, but in reality Blockbuster online only thinks you have one from them since they don't keep tabs on their local stores! Netflix suffers from this as they do not have local stores like Blockbuster does! So, Blockbuster has the edge on Netflix here. A service that Blockbuster started offering recently (and might still be doing!) was that they would accept movies from Netflix and exchange them for a Blockbuster movie in the store! In other words, if you were signed up for Netflix and you decided you wanted to get a movie from Blockbuster, all you'd have to do is bring your DVD from Netflix and they would mail it out for you and you could get a free movie from Blockbuster! Again, Netflix suffers from this as they do not have local stores like Blockbuster does. Blockbuster has the edge over the competition here. If you were to ask me, I would highly recommend Blockbuster's online movie rental service over Netflix. There are several reasons why you would want to do this, including the fact that they exchange your online DVDs for DVDs in their store. It is for this reason and others stated above that I think you should consider them when trying to decide which online movie rental service to use. |
