Destination Weddings
Choosing whether or not to have a destination wedding can be a daunting task. Most of the time having a destination wedding can increase the cost of the overall wedding, but some find the opposite to be true. When thinking of having a destination, keep the following points in mind: 1. Where will you have it? Choosing the right location is always one of the first steps. If you can't find a place you'd like to have a destination wedding, then a local wedding is probably more appropriate. 2. Can you afford it? They say that financial problems cause the most stress in a marriage. Why not start your union off on the right foot by not adding too much stress in the form of finances? Determine whether or not you can afford a destination wedding. 3. How many people do you want at the wedding? Having a wedding internationally means that some people won't be able to make it. This is especially true if you don't elect to pay for the flight tickets of those attending (which most people don't!). People who cannot afford to purchase plane tickets or taking several days off from work won't be able to attend your wedding. It's pretty safe to say that the wedding will be much smaller should you choose to have a destination wedding. 4. Do you want to run into people you know while on your honeymoon? This option is very possible since you will probably honeymoon in the same location that you have your wedding. Try avoiding this by not telling anyone where you'll be staying or choosing to have the wedding at least 1 hour (driving distance) away from the honeymoon location. These are probably some of the more common things to consider when deciding whether or not to have a destination wedding. Writing this intel was inspired by our situation. My wife's closest friend is getting married in Peru in the summer of 2008, and at that time we'll have a 4 month old baby girl. Her destination wedding is very inconvenient for us to attend, but since she's close to my wife it's pretty much expected for us to attend. Just another thing to keep in mind when thinking of a destination wedding- the current "life-state" of your attendees! |
