Pediatrician Interview
When performing a pediatrician interview there are some key questions that you'll want to ask them before agreeing to have your newborn baby checked up on there. Here are some things to keep in mind: 1 What is your overall feel for the office and the people working there? If the environment isn't great and the people at the desk aren't nice, then you might want to consider looking elsewhere. 2 Do they have two waiting rooms? A good pediatrician's office will have one waiting room for children who aren't sick and one for children who are sick. Since children get sick off of each other easily, you wouldn't want your child mingling with sick children if he/she isn't sick. 3 What are the office hours? This is more of a personal preference choice, but think about your work hours and decide whether or not that office's hours will be of assistance or a hindrance to when you'd take your child in for a check up. 4 Where are they located? If the pediatrician's office is far from your house, consider a different office. This is especially important when an emergency arrives. A good question to ask yourself is, Will I be able to get there quickly when the baby has a medical emergency. 5 What weekend/emergency services do they have? Is there someone on call on the weekends? Does a doctor keep a pager on them for emergencies? Having a baby, especially a new baby, can be a challenging experience. Knowing that if something extreme were to come up you'd have a doctor able to care for them quickly is important. 6 Do they have special privileges at the local hospital? If your pediatrician isn't even known at the hospital, it might be an indication of how established (or in this case, NOT established) they are in the area amongst other medical professionals. 7 Do they accept your health care provider? Most pediatrician offices are pretty accepting of most of the major health care providers these days. They try to be more accepting because it brings in more business for them. However, be sure to verify that they accept your health care coverage. If not, then look elsewhere! Keeping these questions in mind will help you in your pediatrician interview. Remember- this is the place you're considering sending your child to when they get sick, so be picky! Use these questions to help you in your selection process.
