You can't teach an old dog new tricks!
Ever wonder where they came up with that phrase, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks."? I have sometimes wondered myself. I have yet to find an answer to that question. But what does this phrase really mean? What it means is that since the dog is older in years, it becomes more difficult to teach him new tricks. Do we become like this as humans? I've wondered if, as humans, we begin to think the same way. Granted it becomes harder for an elderly person to grow to learn and accept new technologies such as the internet and cell phones. But, I am going to venture to suggest that we should always be in a state of learning! Yes, it is harder to learn something and remember things when we're older, but that doesn't mean that we should simply give up on it! We should continue to strive for excellence. Learning helps us toward that goal, and giving up on it simply shouldn't be an acceptable excuse. There are two things in life that are definite: death and taxes. In light of the fact that death is inevitable and we are always getting older, let us not lose sight of our desire to learn. Let us continue to strive for excellence in what we say and do. Most importantly, let us make the world a better place for those generations that will come after us! Let us progress the learning of the human race. |
